KNOWLEDGE
The post holder will be expected to perform at SFIA Level 5 (‘ensure / advise’).
● Is fully familiar with recognised industry bodies of knowledge both generic and specific, and knowledge of the business, suppliers, partners, competitors and clients
● Develops a wider breadth of knowledge across the industry or business. Applies knowledge to help to define the standards which others will apply.
● Ideally educated to bachelor degree level and/ or holds a relevant professional qualification (eg. AWS certification), although consideration will be given to those applicants without these qualifications, but who can demonstrate they have worked at a similar level.
CORE SKILLS
1. Cloud engineering (level 5)
● Adopts and adapts appropriate cloud computing design methods, tools and techniques selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/ agile) approaches, and ensures they are applied effectively
● Designs large or complex cloud-based service solutions. Undertakes impact analysis on major design options and trade-off. Makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks
● Reviews others' cloud-based service designs to ensure selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, and integration of multiple cloud providers and technology
● Ensures that the cloud-based service design balances functional and non-functional requirements
● Contributes to development of service design policies and standards and selection of architecture components and building blocks
● Plans and directs migration of IT services from traditional infrastructure to cloud computing based infrastructures and/ or services.
2. Programming/ software development (level 5)
● Takes technical responsibility across all stages and iterations of software development
● Plans and drives software construction activities. Adopts and adapts appropriate software development methods, tools and techniques
● Measures and monitors applications of project/ team standards for software construction, including software security
● Contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for software development.
3. Systems integration & build (level 5)
● Plans and drives activities to develop organisational systems integration and build capabilities including automation and continuous integration
● Identifies, evaluates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes to create a robust integration framework. Provides authoritative advice and guidance on any aspect of systems integration
● Leads integration work in line with the agreed system and service design. Assesses risks and takes preventative action. Measures and monitors applications of standards
● Contributes to the development of organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for systems integration.
4. Network design (level 5)
● Produces, or approves network providers', network architectures, topologies and configuration databases for their own area of responsibility
● Specifies design parameters for network connectivity, capacity, speed, interfacing, security and access, in line with business requirements
● Assesses network-related risks and specifies recovery routines and contingency procedures
● Creates multiple design views to address the different stakeholders' concerns and to handle both functional and non-functional requirements.
